Fast-paced and engaging, Reverse Chess has emerged as one of the most intriguing variants of traditional chess, known by various names across the globe, including Antichess, Suicide Chess, Loser’s Chess, Killer Chess, and Shmess.

The mechanics of Reverse Chess mirror those of standard chess, yet introduce a unique twist: players are required to capture an opponent's piece whenever possible. Victory is achieved by being the first player to have all of their pieces captured or by placing the opponent in a position where they cannot make a legal move, which can lead to stalemate conditions.

In this variant, the King functions like any other piece; the game does not conclude if the King is captured. Notably, traditional rules such as castling and check are absent. Additionally, pawns have the flexibility to be promoted to any piece regardless of number, adding to the strategic depth.

The duration of an average game is approximately 10 minutes, and players may find that the balance of power shifts rapidly between opponents. It is crucial to approach each move with caution, as a single miscalculated action can dramatically alter the outcome. Strategies that are effective in classical chess may prove less advantageous here, highlighting the distinct nature of Reverse Chess.

Notably, mastering Reverse Chess can be just as challenging as conventional chess, with the added complexity that losing can sometimes feel even more formidable.
