The mechanics of Reverse Chess mirror those of standard chess, yet introduce a unique twist: players are required to capture an opponent's piece whenever possible. Victory is achieved by being the first player to have all of their pieces captured or by placing the opponent in a position where they cannot make a legal move, which can lead to stalemate conditions.

In this variant, the King functions like any other piece; the game does not conclude if the King is captured. Notably, traditional rules such as castling and check are absent. Additionally, pawns have the flexibility to be promoted to any piece regardless of number, adding to the strategic depth.
